This is our beautiful, hand-crafted coffee table, created from British burr oak wood. The table is solid and heavy and the colour and grain of the oak wood is really eye-catching – this would make a stunning centre-piece.
The grain of the oak is superb and covered with natural burry patterns. If you look into the markings, the impression of a lion’s face jumps out at you, complete with eyes and nose! The tawny light brown colour of the wood is perfect for the illusion. Take a look yourself and see what you think. It’s why we called this piece The Lion’s Face Table!
The top of the coffee table has been crafted from two adjoining boards from the same tree, which have been carefully chosen and book-matched to create a handsome mirrored effect.
As with all our furniture pieces, the whole surface of the coffee table has been repeatedly finished and polished by hand, to produce a smoothed and tactile feel – it is a joy to run your hand over it and to touch the grain.
We craft our furniture using both traditional and modern techniques, to the highest standards. We trust our pieces will last for decades to come and hopefully become family heirlooms of the future.
It’s quite unusual to find burr oak of this quality – it’s rather special. As furniture makers, we feel we are entrusted to do justice to our native trees, when they have to be felled or pruned. We aim to give the tree a second chance to hopefully last and be appreciated for many more years yet.
The Lion’s Face Table has been crafted by our qualified Uniqueworks cabinet-maker, as a one off and unique item, at our small workshop in Pembrokeshire. Everything we make is an individual piece, inspired by the wood itself. Please contact us if you would like us to make you an item of furniture, unique to your specifications.
